In September and October I attended the Ballinglen artist residency in the small village of Ballycastle, Ireland. The collages and paintings on paper I made in my Irish studio were inspired by the green meadows divided into geometric shapes, debris washed up by the sea and Irish folk tales by Yeats. Wonderful experiences with other artists and people in the village.
My second residency at the American Academy in Rome in January and February yielded over 20 paintings and collages on paper responding to Rome's complex layers of history, symbols and beauty. I had the privilege of working in Philip Guston's former studio and met many inspiring artists, scholars and writers - Fred Wilson, Basil Twist, Karen Olivier and Mary Beard among them. I am very excited to be participating in a residency at La Napoule in southern France in August and September of 2019.
After that, I will proceed directly to a second painting residency at Ballinglen in Ireland.
